Over the edge, thundering awe, With majestic splendour it calls. Rising far above the gorge, The amazing Niagara Falls. Billowing clouds of ethereal mist, Soaring over the crowd. Not easy to speak, or be heard, For the rushing water is loud. The...

In a crowded room he catches my eye, His heated gaze says it all, “I only have eyes for you, my love”, And I am the luckiest woman alive Because his love is real, In his eyes I see the reflection Of my own heart. My soul has been searching for him...

As I sat on the beach in Punta Cana early one morning, staring at the ghostly remains of a shipwreck, the Astron, this poem came to life. The storm came out of nowhere, Winds beyond belief, Way off course, in monstrous waves, Too late they saw ...

Profile Information

About Yourself:
Annabel Sheila grew up in a small town nestled into the mountains with the ocean at its door. Her hometown, Stephenville, is located in beautiful Bay St. George on the west coast of Newfoundland. Growing up beside the ocean with a real pirate in her ancestry, her vivid imagination was constantly fuelled.
Her father was an upholsterer, and her mother was a full-time homemaker with seven children, of which Annabel Sheila was the third eldest. While her mother’s side of the family was Irish, her father’s side was very French (Native MicMac); in fact her grandfather spoke very little English. An avid reader since childhood, she embraced her passion for writing a few years ago and has since published two books.
One of her books Tell Me A Story, is a children’s book of lyrical poetry she has written and illustrated. She is using this book as a fundraiser for the Kiwanis/Unicef three-year (08/09/10) project to raise funds and help protect children in the Caribbean where the highest rate of AIDS next to sub-Saharan Africa exists. The AIDS virus progresses rapidly in children, and it is estimated half of HIV positive infants die by the time they reach their second birthday. The devastating power of AIDS creates children who face grave risks to their health; who are orphans needing care; who are cared for by chronically ill parents; who are vulnerable, and who worry about their future. Kiwanis/Unicef will focus on AIDS education as well as providing antiretroviral drugs that can not only improve expectant mothers’ health but also substantially reduce the risk of mother-to-child-transfer of the virus.
Her second book, Sketches Of Destiny, is a fictional book published in January 2008 and released on March 17, 2008. There are always three or four stories in progress, and her list of lyrical poetry for both grown-ups and children continues to grow daily. Annabel Sheila resides in Moncton, New Brunswick with her soul mate Rick. She has two grown-up children and a grandson. Where does her writing inspiration come from? It’s all around her and she firmly believes in her mantra - “Imagination Equals Inspiration”.
A regular contributing writer of both lyrical poetry and short stories for Bread n’ Molasses Magazine, (Miramichi, New Brunswick), a member of the Board of Editors for Bread n’ Molasses Magazine and a member of the Canadian Poetry Association, Annabel Sheila is an author with a great imagination and a passion for writing.

Strangers And Heroes

Strangers and Heroes

They don’t even know me, and yet
They would die for me.
I didn’t ask of them a solitary thing, and yet
They would give me everything.
My life goes on in comfort and safety.
They’ve left behind all comfort,
Sacrificing their own safety for me, a stranger,
They’ve left behind family and friends,
Travelled to a land where,
Friend and enemy are often the same.
They bravely face the unknown,
Every one of them a hero!
Where would I be without them?
Would I be forced to live in fe… Continue

Dancing Naked With Trees

Solitude envelops the little cottage,
Far away from the milieu of the city,
Night has claimed the evening sky.
Birch trees sway in the brisk autumn breeze,
White bark on their naked silhouettes
Like naughty wood nymphs dancing nude,
In the dark forest where bright stars,
In the black velvet sky above
Illuminate the dance floor.
Dry leaves rustle in the night,
Applauding the graceful frolic
Of the shimmering birch trees;
A sudden gust, and poplar trees join in the dance,
Moving back and forth, ke… Continue

Smouldering Heat

Smouldering heat, a summer’s day,
Moisture pools upon my fiery skin,
Glistening like beaded gems.
The sun gazes upon the scorched earth,
Parching the soil with her heated stare.
Trees bend to offer shade, a haven,
But the sweltering air clings like a shadow.
I close my eyes, and dream… Continue

Mermaid's Tears

Oh how many tragic tears, Must mermaids weep each day?
To leave behind the trail of gems,
Washed up on the shore in the bay.

Beautifully sculpted sea glass,
Is mermaid’s tears they say,
But it may be magical, mystical dust,
Sprinkled by mermaids at play.

Maybe the sparkling piec… Continue

Minister's Island

There is a sometimes-overlooked jewel,
In St. Andrew’s by the sea,
Sir William Van Horne’s island estate,
A remarkable place to see.

Minister’s Island’s enchanting,
With its history, charm and flair,
One can truly appreciate
A gem such as this is rare.

Out of the ocean a causeway ap… Continue
